Personal Finance Site MoneyNing.com Now Offering Tips and Pointers on Salary Negotiations

Irvine, CA 27, 2011 Personal finance website MoneyNing.com offers salary negotiation strategies to those in the process of securing employment in its latest post entitled 4 Pointers on Negotiating Your Starting Salary at http://moneyning.com/.

A recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates that finding employment is taking nearly twice as long as it did in 2007. This isn’t a big surprise with 13.8 million Americans out of work and the unemployment rate hovering close to the double digits.

So, when college grads or the long-standing unemployed finally land a job, securing the right salary and benefits package may not be the first thing on their mind. For many, simply having a job is a relief after months of searching; however, as Emily Guy Birken points out in her guest post on MoneyNing.com, “Only you have your best interests at heart in this negotiation.

With that in mind Birken goes on to give four very specific tips to those in the midst of salary negotiations. Birken urges readers to do some sleuthing before the interview and come prepared with a solid understanding of not only what their experience and education are worth to an employer, but also what those in the same field are generally earning.

Birken also suggests that when offered a position of employment, it’s wise to wait before accepting, “When your prospective employer has given you the offer, thank him for the opportunity and make it clear that you’re very interested in the position, but that you need some time to think it over.
